Adair Margo founded the Tom Lea Institute in 2009 to spark public appreciation of El Paso artist Tom Lea’s art, character, and legacy. Lea’s paintings and writings range in subject from borderland history to bullfighting and WWII battles. His conflict paintings captured the harsh realities and rawness of war for TIME Magazine in a way cameras never could have done.
But without Adair stepping in and initiating art preservation efforts, most of his work would have disappeared completely after his death in 2001. And now she is being honored for her hard work by The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution! The society will present her with the prestigious Historic Preservation Medal in March 2019.
